ASTROWIN v1.6, by ALLEN EDWALL Allen Edwall, an American programmer, has created a simple but powerful astrology program that enables you to calculate a natal birthchart as well as forecasting techniques such as transits and progressions. You can save the charts you create, enabling you to build up a library of birthcharts. LATITUDE, LONGITUDE, TIME ZONES and SUMMER TIME-CHANGES Although Astrowin gives you a lot for very little outlay, you will still need to know the latitude and longitude of the birthplace however, as well as the time zone and any time change information that is relevant. You can find latitudes and longitudes of places in some atlases and maps. For time change information in the UK, you can use the handout provided in class, or for non-uk birthplaces you can look up the time-change information (as well as latitude/longitude info) in The International Atlas, or The American Atlas (both compiled by Thomas Shanks, ACS publications), which we have in the Aquarius Severn library at Parmoor House. ASTROWIN is FREEWARE, that is, you may copy it and distribute it to other people, but may not do so on a commercial basis. The program contains an amazing horary astrology section that helps you interpret a horary chart (the chart set for the moment of receiving a question on a specific matter). There are other goodies such as Arabian Parts and Cosmodynes (he explains what they are in two enclosed text files: seen_any.txt and cosmo2.txt). NB: The latest version of ASTROWIN (v2) does NOT contain the Horary Analyzer, as Allen has decided to sell this part of the original program as part of a commercial program called HORARY HELPER, which retails for around $70 (I think). So the version on this disk (which contains the Horary Analyzer) is very good value indeed. Allen Edwall has created some other amazing programs, which are available at http://www.astrowin.org/ PLEASE NOTE: This Freeware program is distributed 'as is' and neither Aquarius Severn, Graham Boston nor Andrew Sime take any responsibility for its use on your computer. Neither are we able to offer support (there are good help files included). HOW TO SET UP ASTROWIN 1. First, copy the enclosed file (program.exe) to a folder on drive c: (such as c:\windows\temp for instance, or you could create one called 'temp' or 'junk' or whatever.) TIP: It might be safer to create a new, empty folder just for this purpose. You can delete it once the program has been installed. 2. Create another folder specifically for ASTROWIN (e.g. c:\astrowin, or c:\astrology\astrowin) 2. Go into the temporary folder you created in step 1) and double-click on program.exe. This will 'unpack' the compressed files it contains. 3. Press the F5 function key on your keyboard. This will 'refresh' the directory, enabling you to see the new files that are now inside it. Find 'setup.exe', double-click on it and then follow the installation instructions. Install the program in the astrowin folder you created in step 2). 5. You can if you wish delete the temporary folder you created earlier. 6. Read Allen Edwall's Readme.wri file - it contains a handy quick guide to how to start using the prgram. 7. To start the program, double-click on Astrowin.exe ************************************* USING ASTROWIN If the the Natal Input Data screen isn't already visible, click 'Input' on the AstroWin menubar. The Natal Input Data screen will then appear, and you can type in the person's birth details. 1. In the 'Name' field, type the name of the person concerned. 2. In the 'Month' field, type the month 3. In the 'Day' field, type the day (e.g, if born 2nd June, type 2, or 02) 4. In the 'Year' field, type the full year (e.g. 1958) 5. In the 'Birth' Hour field, type the hour of birth. Do not convert to the 24 hour clock, so if born for example at 10pm, you would type '10'. Then choose AM if born befor noon, or PM if born after noon. 6. In the 'Birth Minute' field, type the minutes 7. In the 'Time Zone' field type the difference between the time on the clock and Greenwich Mean Time. This should have been separated out into Time Zone and a separate Summer Time option, but Edwall has mixed them together. Click on the TZ Help button for further help. For example, if the person were botn in Britian in the summer months, you would type '-1'here, which corresponds to British Summer Time. If the person were born in France in the winter, you would also type '-1' here, but for a different reason - because France is in a different Time Zone to the UK (it's 1 hour ahead). This corresponds to Central European Time (CET). In summer this changes to Central European Daylight (CED) Time, and is 2 hours ahead. 8. In the Longitude and Latitude section, type in the degrees and minutes East or West of Greenwich (Longitude), and the degrees and minutes North or South of the equator (Latitude). 9. Now click 'Save to disk'. Astrowin may prompt you to choose which directory to save the birthdata in, for example, under 'family' or 'clients'. 10.Now Press 'OK'. Up will pop an information page showing the positions of the planets, houses. 11. To get a chartwheel displayed, click the 'F9' key on your keyboard, or click Wheels/Single Chartwheels/Natal on the AstroWin menubar.
