Thurs. 1st August 2024 7:30pm (UK time BST). Entrance from 7.15pm Mercury as Psychopomp: Our Guide to the Afterlife? with Alison Boulton
The mythical role of Hermes/Mercury as psychopomp is recorded in The Odyssey and it continues to pervade our consciousness today. Through investigation of the death charts of famous people in relation to their natal charts, this talk explores the nature and role of ‘the guide of souls’ asking whether Mercury does indeed fill this role and whether this can be evidenced through astrology. The tentative conclusion is ‘yes’. In the death chart, Mercury is frequently active by transit or progression. The extraordinary privilege of a conversation with an actual psychopomp offers insights into how this might translate into some kind of reality.

This talk is an easy philosophical journey that will show you the difference between awareness and consciousness - an important consideration in this time of 'Awakening.' Julian's theory helps to create the bridge to unify traditional and modern psychological astrology - through an understanding of perception - of how to 'see' the world.
He will include the real secret of the 'Rising sign' and what a 'Transit' really is - and also the opening of your third eye - the all-seeing eye. We will journey with Dante through the Paradise, and realise why Shakespeare called his theatre The Globe.

Thurs. 1st. February 2024 7:30pm (UK time GMT). Entrance from 7.15pm Trail-blazing Women with Gillian Crawford
Despite some gains made in the 20th century, most women have, for millennia, been excluded from the public sphere and confined to the domestic one, living lives as dutiful daughters, wives and mothers. Nevertheless, there have always been brave souls who defied convention to follow their own dream. This talk takes an astrological lens to several such women, who blazed literal or metaphorical trails.
What motivated them? What aspects of their birth charts propelled them to pursue their adventurous paths in life? What enabled them to find a form of freedom that was unavailable to the majority of their sisters? What was the personal cost? And what fortunate aspects in their birth-charts might have helped to prevent their exploits being written out of history?
Gillian Crawford (Dip. KSA, MAPAI) has a scientific background and spent her working life first in the food industry and later in various educational roles. Her fascination with astronomy stems from childhood but her exploration of astrology did not begin until her mid-20s. She joined the tutoring team for the Kairos School of Astrology in 2020 and the Aquarius Severn Committee at about the same time. Gillian offers astrological consultations and runs occasional in-person and online courses. Her Via-Astrology Facebook page can be found here: https://www.facebook.com/ViaAstrology.

This year we welcome back as a speaker Graham Boston, who will be joining Gillian Crawford for our annual tune-in to the astrological heavens. Both will be well-known to Aquarius Severn regulars for their depth of experience and insightful approach to astrology.
The significant transition of Pluto out of Capricorn will remain ongoing, not completing until November, after which it will stay in Aquarius for nineteen years.
The Solar eclipse of 8 April is an interesting chart, with the planets all within four signs from Aquarius to Taurus. The main planetary aspect will be the Jupiter Uranus conjunction in April, an event that only happens every 14 years.
The evening will be a blend of both considering the wider picture and how our own birth charts may be connected to planetary transits and there will also be the chance for you to contribute your own observations on the year ahead.
Thurs. 7th December 2023 7:30pm (UK time BST). Entrance from 7.15pm The William Lilly Soap Opera with Chris Mitchell
When many astrologers today hear the term “horary”, they immediately think of William Lilly, the 17th-century English astrologer. Lilly was a fascinating character who practised during the Civil War, and was often caught up in the politics of his time. In this talk we will have a look at William Lilly the man, and also show that his contribution to astrology was a lot wider than just the horary astrology that many of us think of.

He was a Rastafari hero who expressed his spirituality and Jamaican identity in his songs.
Leonard Cohen was one of the most iconic Canadian artists of the 20th century. A sage, mystic, bohemian and romantic, he built an acclaimed body of literary work and a revered career in pop music. Thurs. 5th October 2023 7:30pm (UK time BST). Entrance from 7.15pm Surfing the Galactic Highways with Barry Goddard
Astrology has the power to take our breath away, to enchant us through the eerie synchronicities it reveals between sky events and earth events. Life presents us all with periods that are both challenging and potentially transformative. This month's talk will explore topics from his recent book about astrology, 'Surfing the Galactic Highways Adventures in Divinatory Astrology' and will be an informal and wide-ranging conversation with Barry as he shares his personal experiences of working with astrology in intimate detail. We will talk about how the outer planets can be used to help navigate and illuminate those testing times and how astrology can guide us through the deep initiatory and transformative experiences that life, if we are willing, offers us - providing an affirmation of an intuitive, non-rational means of knowing that's central to who we are as humans, but undervalued and even denied in our modern age.
In his twenties and thirties Barry was engaged in Buddhist practice, but for the last 25 years the main currents have been astrology and shamanism. He regularly writes blogs and Facebook posts about both shamanism and astrology, to which he brings a fresh and sometimes controversial perspective. He also does astrology readings and runs courses on Shamanism. . Barry lives on Dartmoor in Devon, UK.
Thurs. 7th September 2023 7:30pm (UK time BST). Entrance from 7.15pm The Body of Stars: the body through the lens of astrology with Kate Hubert
The body is fundamental to our experience of the evolutionary pressure of life (which the birth chart describes) and to our perception of life generally. Astrologically understood, health challenges reveal the body's intelligence, its own poetic logic, guiding us out of patterns of conditioning towards what is vitally required for health, wholeness and authenticity. Looking at some case studies we will see how illness and injury meaningfully relate to personal evolution; in turn this will give us a deep, intriguing appreciation of what the body is and of the meanings it contains.
Kate Hubert has been a professional astrologer since 1999, her work being influenced by esoteric and Jungian astrologies and a deep love of druidry. Her book, The Body of Stars: Astrology & the Wisdom of the Body has been critically acclaimed. Kate's interest is in how the cosmos interweaves with the microcosmic human, helping us to take hold of both astrology and the art of being human in a deeper way. She is based in South Devon, where she offers in-person and Skype consultations, teaching and mentoring.
Thurs. 3rd. August 2023 7:30pm (UK time BST). Entrance from 7.15pm The discovery of Pluto : Herstory – What would Persephone say? with Liz Hathway
Painting by Walter Crane, Public domain, via Wikimedia Commons
The first planet to be discovered in the New World, Pluto’s emergence into collective consciousness has been associated with the splitting of the atom, the nuclear age, the rise of fascism, and to the criminal underworld, the mafia. However the planets arrival is also connected with an unheard voice, which I refer to as Persephone’s. As Pluto himself emerged, so did SHE. ‘Beauty in a jar’, beauty as power, androgynous women and in England the emergence of the sacred feminine and the Goddess Movement, the discovery horoscope of Pluto also points to a re-emergence of the feminine – a validation of female spirituality, sexuality and a validation of feminine political power. In this talk, Liz will look at Pluto’s discovery from a different perspective.
Elizabeth (Liz) Hathway DFAstrolS, MA in Cultural Astronomy and Astrology (with Distinction), Qualified Horary Craftswoman (Frawley school) is an independent researcher with a special interest in rituals, sacred space, shamanism, magic and transformation. She has published articles on mundane astrology – a subject she is passionate about - in leading astrological journals, and has lectured in the UK, the Netherlands, Belgium and India. Born in the lush valleys of South Wales, Liz currently lives and works in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. A selection of English language articles written by Liz can be found at: www.lizhathwayastrology.nl, follow Liz Hathway Astrologer (on Facebook) or on YouTube.
Thurs. 6th July 2023 7:30pm (UK time BST). Entrance from 7.15pm How Pluto Reshapes Our World: Insights From The Egyptian Bounds with Dan Waites
The Egyptian terms or bounds are mysterious divisions of each of the signs into five unequal sectors. They were held to be very important by traditional astrologers. Examining Pluto's transits through the lens of the bounds can shed light on the past 15 years of history, including the Trump presidency, the #MeToo movement, the Islamic State, the 2008 financial crisis, Covid-19 and the war in Ukraine. And it can give us intriguing clues to how Pluto's current 20-year pass through Aquarius will play out.
Dan Waites is a consulting astrologer, researcher and content creator focused on world and natal astrology. He says: “My goal is to use astrological wisdom and historical research to understand the times we’re living through and help more people cross the threshold into a magical cosmos.” His writing on world astrology can be found at worldastrologyreport.substack.com, his YouTube channel is “World Astrology Report” and his website for bookings and contact is: danwaitesastrology.com.
Thurs. 1st June 2023 The Astrology of Personality Disorder with Dr Mark Williams
Personality disorder, as a psychiatric diagnosis, represents an ingrained pattern of thinking and feeling that is notoriously hard to treat and can cause immense distress and destructiveness. It is very likely that any astrologer who works as a counsellor will see clients who suffer from (or might have) PD, and this talk suggests some ways of working astrologically with such people, whose suffering is very great but who require very firm boundaries. Dr Mark Williams is a therapist, astrologer and academic, specialising in medieval literature and focusing especially on the history of magic. He teaches at the University of Oxford and is in training as a Jungian Analyst.
Thurs. 4th May 2023 Astrology, Herbs and Health with Elisabeth Brooke
Astrology and Herbs can be used to promote health and wellbeing. Until the 17thC, Astrology and Herbal Medicine were practiced together. Subsequently, medicine became a science and not an art and the sacred was removed from medicine. Herbs are assigned to planets and have actions which represent one of the four temperaments, Choleric, Sanguine, Melancholic and Phlegmatic. Your Temperament can be calculated from your horoscope. Sickness, and which herbs to take for minor ailments, are determined using the Decumbiture chart. I will be using material from my book, Western Traditional Herbal Medicine.
Elisabeth Brooke qualified as a herbalist in 1980. She studied Horary and Decumbiture with Maggie Hyde and Geoffrey Cornelius of the Company of Astrologers and counselling with Diana Whitmore and Piero Ferrucci at The Psychosynthesis and Education Trust. She has published 9 books including, As Above So Below-Traditional Western Herbal Medicine (2019), Goddess Astrology (2022) and A Woman's Book of Herbs (1992, 2019). Her practice is focused on preventative medicine, using Temperaments, Decumbiture, Herbs and positive psychology. She lectures and teaches worldwide including at the Greek Island Summer School.
Thurs. 6th April 2023 Horary: Astrology as Divination with Mark Flaherty
Horary Astrology is the practice of interpreting a horoscope for the moment a question is asked, in order to determine the best course of action in the given situation. In this introduction to the ancient art, Mark will describe Horary’s philosophical basis, and how it is, for him, a ritual practice of communing with spirits. He will discuss what makes a good question and describe the essential technique involved in judging a chart. He will also give a detailed walkthrough of a real world horary question, so that you can see the practice in action.
Mark Flaherty is a consulting astrologer with clients in over 50 countries. He studied, and continues to study, Horary Astrology with Geoffrey Cornelius and Maggie Hyde. Formerly a skeptical computer programmer, severe illness led Mark to the Amazon jungle where he lived for many years, participating in countless shamanic ceremonies as part of his healing journey. It was here that he was introduced to astrology and immediately recognised the profound wisdom of this ancient practice.
Thurs. 2nd March 2023 Discovering the Personal Daimon: Fate and Destiny in Your Birth Chart with Cat Rose Neligan
The daimon goes by many names and guises. For some, it’s their Holy Guardian Angel. For others, it’s their calling. Others see it as trickster, or worse, a demon.
In this talk, we explore the cultural variations on the daimon, the origins of it and why it’s been so sought after (intellectually, spiritually or otherwise) for thousands of years.
We’ll focus on the use of astrology to understand the personal daimon, identify your own daimonic experiences and explore how it shows up for you, using your birth chart.
Cat Rose incorporates astrology into her work coaching creative introverts, helping artists, writers, musicians, and all kinds of creatives to better understand themselves, identify their calling, and share their work with the world. Thurs. 2nd February 2023 7:30pm (UK time). Entrance from 7.15pm Pluto in Aquarius with Bernard Eccles
Big changes in the way we all live are imminent: after sixteen years in Capricorn, Pluto will dip into Aquarius on 23 March, retrograding into Capricorn on 11 June before returning to Aquarius - for twenty years - on 20 January 2024.
Some people hope the sign change will push us towards a fairer and more humane society, in line with the best Aquarian precepts; others fear the growth of Artificial Intelligence, keeping us all under constant surveillance and creating a new society of enforced equality.
To help us grasp this major shift, Bernard will be looking at why we interpret Pluto the way we do, and how we got its symbolic vocabulary and how that will feed into the sign change.
And what about the fact that Pluto is approaching its maximum declination soon? Should we be worried?
Bernard Eccles has been writing, teaching and lecturing about astrology for over forty years. He was President of the Astrological Lodge of London twice in the 1980s, won the Astrological Association's Charles Harvey award in 2011, and is a regular guest lecturer at the Faculty of Astrological Studies Summer School at Oxford. His magazine horoscope columns appear in eight different languages around the world.
Bernard has given many talks at Aquarius Severn both in person and online and we are pleased to welcome him again.
Thurs. 5th. January 2023 7:30pm (UK time). Entrance from 7.15pm Turning of the year with the Aquarius Severn Committee
A quick look back at last year's astrology before looking forward to the new year. In tonight's talk we'll consider the context of the outer planets in our lives over the last few years as we gear up for big changes with Saturn moving into Pisces and Pluto dipping its toes into Aquarius.
We'll also look at this year's eclipses and there will be an opportunity for attendees to contribute to a discussion on drawing the positives from this year's astrology.
Thurs. 1st December 7:30pm (UK time). Entrance from 7.15pm Jupiter - the good, the bad and the ugly with Adrian Duncan
The beliefs you gravitate to are shown by Jupiter. As events in the news so often show, when Jupiter is heavily aspected, the effect of beliefs can turn ugly. Pursuing beliefs as an end can end in tears. Jupiter shows how we shape experience, obscuring perception. This talk explores how we can liberate ourselves by identifying and changing limiting belief.
Adrian Duncan has had a full-time astrology practice since 1985, is a former editor of The Astrological Journal and is author of Doing Time on Planet Earth and is World of Wisdom astrology software. Adrian (and Aquarius Severn) were ahead of the curve as Adrian presented an online talk for us as long ago as 2009!
Thurs. 3rd November 7:30pm (UK time). Entrance from 7.15pm The Venus Star, Our Connection to a Heart-Centred Cosmos with Arielle Guttman
This lecture introduces the audience to the Star of Venus. Many of us are aware of our own personal (natal) position of Venus, but few are aware that she, together with Earth, form a beautiful heart-shaped pentagonal pattern as they orbit around the Sun. That pattern is the Venus Star.
Arielle Guttman will demonstrate the five current star points on the world chart and how they are relevant to the current timeline. Arielle will also display the table of dates to find your own Venus Star Point and place it in your chart for a bright new look at how this Venus is guiding your life path.
Arielle Guttman began her astrological studies in 1974 and has since authored five books in the field including the two-volume Mythic Astrology series with Kenneth Johnson and The Astro*Carto*Graphy Book of Maps with the late Jim Lewis.
More recently she has authored the ground-breaking volume on Venus called Venus Star Rising: A New Cosmology for the 21st Century which introduces the 5 Venus Star Points.
Arielle has lectured and taught around the world for various astrological organizations and schools. She currently lives in Greece. She offers a home-study course that leads to professional certification in the Venus Star Point system.

Thurs. 6th October 7:30pm (UK time). Entrance from 7.15pm The Astrology of Three Great Artists with Wendy Fey, Xenia Nent and Elisabeth Brooke
We are delighted to welcome three astrologers from amongst our community who have each volunteered a 15 to 20 minute talk on the astrology, life and work of their chosen artist.
Firstly, Wendy Fey will speak about Rembrandt, delving, amongst other things, into how his wonderfully perceptive and penetrative self-portraits express his birth chart. Wendy has previously given a talk to us on the subject of the astrology, life and self-portraits of Vincent Van Gogh. Her interest in Rembrandt goes back decades, as she studied art history. Wendy is a long-term member of the Aquarius Severn Society and is nearing completion of her M.A. in Cultural Astronomy and Astrology.
Then Xenia Nent will offer a talk on the Belgian surrealist artist René Magritte. Xenia finds that, from the perspective of psychological astrology, surrealism is especially interesting as it emerged alongside the new and developing discipline of psychology and has connections with it. Xenia studied with MISPA (Mercury Internet School of Psychological Astrology) before going on to study the newly discovered dwarf planets with astrologer Alan Clay. Her blog can be found here.
The third speaker we have asked to take part is Elisabeth Brooke, who has a particular interest in the astrology, life and work of Georgia O'Keeffe, an artist sometimes called 'the mother of American modernism' and who is perhaps most famous for her glorious paintings of larger-then-life flowers. Elisabeth is a medical herbalist, on which subject she has lectured extensively, the author of several books, as well as a counsellor and astrologer and her website can be found here.
Thurs. 1 Sept., 7.30pm (UK time). Entrance from 7.15pm Up The Golden Path with A.T. Mann
We are delighted to welcome back top U.S. astrologer, author, designer and artist A.T. (Tad) Mann, author of eighteen books on astrology, sacred architecture, sexuality and gardens.
His Logarithmic Time Scale concept, based on the ideas of G.I Gurdjieff, J.D. Ouspensky and Rodney Collin, inform his books on astrology, including The Round Art: The Astrology of Time and Space, Life Time Astrology and Astrology and the Art of Healing.
"The lifetime journey from childhood to adulthood, and beyond to the transcendent, is a process in time. Astrology reflects this, but it rarely manifests in our techniques.
Follow A.T. Mann’s journey through history, our own history, and a new way of seeing your life in time that allows you to step through into the core of your being and beyond.'
A.T. Mann was self-taught, enabled by the works of Gurdjieff and Ouspensly, and Rodney Collin, into a “Fourth Way” philosophy that utilizes this essential dynamic in its mechanism and practice. Having now done over 5000 readings using Life Time Astrology, it is even more strongly validated."
A.T. (Tad) Mann was born in New York in 1943, graduated from Cornell University Architecture School and worked as an architectural designer for years in New York City and Rome, creating many buildings which won design awards. Since 1972, he has created and practiced Life Time Astrology whilst living in the UK, Denmark and currently the US. His technique is a dynamic narrative astrology, alive and active, from conception to old age and death.
His books include The Round Art: Astrology of Time and Space (1978); Life Time Astrology (1984); The Divine Plot: Astrology and Reincarnation (1986); Astrology and the Art of Healing (1989); The Mandala Astrological Tarot (1988); and a series of books on the Sacred.
The sheet below (which you can download or view full-screen) shows the flow of time through different 'octaves' throughout a person's life, from the moment of conception (the cusp of the 9th house) through Gestation (9th to 12th houses) via the Asc (birth) to Childhood (1st to 4th houses), then Maturity (5th to 8th houses), to the archetypal moment of death which is also the cusp of the 9th house. Beyond this point is the archetypal realm of Transcendence, which overlaps with the octave of Gestation.
Also shown are an example of Life*Time dates, showing when planets in the birth chart 'register' (i.e. when a particular planet manifests most strongly in your life) or are in aspect, for a given moment during the person's life.
On the second page is a Logarithmic Time Scale that can be printed onto a transparency and overlaid on your birth chart, for a quick way of seeing at what age you will be (or were) when planets 'register'.

Modern astrology is awash with a full toolkit of useful techniques, and it's easy to think of traditional astrology - with just seven planets and five aspects - as being a bit simplistic. But traditional astrology has its own toolkit of techniques that you can incorporate into your own practice.
In tonight's talk, we'll start with a quick introduction to traditional astrology to show where it's similar and where it's different to modern astrology, before diving into a couple of fascinating predictive techniques that will help you map out your life.
Chris Mitchell has a PhD from the University of Leicester on the topic of medieval astrology and an MA in Cultural Astronomy and Astrology from Bath Spa University College. He is a tutor on that MA course, now hosted at the University of Wales, and holds a diploma in Medieval Astrology from Astrologos. He has been actively involved in promoting and teaching astrology since the 1990s, is on the boards of the Astrological Association, the Association of Professional Astrologers International (APAI), and the International Association of Ethics in Astrology (IAEA), and has given talks to groups and conferences in Europe and the US. He is the author of England's First Astrology Book, and was the joint recipient of the Charles Harvey Award for Exceptional Service to Astrology in 2021.

We'll use breakout rooms for most questions so that you can get to know fellow attendees within a small group. The small group discussions will be followed by our usual whole group astro-chat. An opportunity to get together with fellow astrology enthusiasts, meet old friends and perhaps make new ones!

The Dark Moon’s position in our horoscope offers a gateway into our own personal unconscious. Astrologer Pamela Armstrong will talk about how this can reveal to us, if we so chose to look great self knowledge and self awareness.

Thursday 6 Jan, 7.30pm (UK time). Entrance from 7.15pm The Astrology of 2022 with Aquarius Severn committee members Graham Boston and Kris Lee
With the main astrological event of 2022 being a Jupiter-Neptune conjunction in Pisces it promises to be a more peaceful year than 2021 with its multiple Saturn-Uranus squares. Or does it?
Join Graham as he briefly reviews how the astrology of 2021 played out then looks forward to how 2022 might manifest on the collective level. Following this, Kris will lead a guided visualisation of the Jupiter-Neptune conjunction after which (time permitting) you will have an opportunity to share your experience with the group.
You are also invited to bring an object or image that symbolises what the conjunction means to you, show it to the group using your camera and to share your reasons for choosing it.
Please note that participants will be selected on a random basis within a 15-minute segment so there probably won't be time for everyone. Don't worry if you don't have anything or don't wish to participate - it's entirely optional :-)
We will end by exploring how the main event of the year might play out on the individual level.
Afterwards the floor will be open as usual for a relaxed general conversation.
